Happy 2018…A New Year is upon us!
“Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow” - Albert Einstein

The start of a new year is a time for us to refresh, reflect on the past, seize the day and set goals for the days ahead. 2017 proved to be another year that HRACC has stayed true to fulfilling its mission in “serving the HR community by providing superior professional development, networking opportunities, and educational resources to enhance the value of the profession”. Our Immediate Past President Maria Joy, SHRM-SCP, SPHR is leaving us in good hands.

With the help of our members, volunteers and dedicated board members we are able to highlight some of our 2017 accomplishments:

·    Increased our membership by 8.6% over last year, serving over 400 members

·    Received SHRM Learning System Chapter Champion Status

·    Hosted and engaged over 800+ attendees at HRACC events

·    Awarded $2,500 in scholarships to current and future HR Professionals

·    Continued expansion and outreach in the New Haven Member Service Area

·    Celebrated 4 deserving employers with the When Work Works Award

·    Achieved much success and participation via our Young Professionals committee

·    Continued our partnership with CCSU, with over 220 students enrolled in our HR classes

As a 7+ year member and volunteer leader for HRACC, I am honored and excited to officially take on the role of President for an organization that genuinely aligns with my spirit and passion for the HR profession. One of my favorite quotes to live by states that “As you let your light shine you unconsciously give others permission to do the same.”  I hope to carry on the ignited leadership torch in 2018 for a chapter that has continuously shined in the HR community for over 36 years.

Here are a few of the initiatives that we hope to take action on in 2018:

·       Membership – Engagement, Volunteerism & Retention

·       Marketing & Public Relations - Social Media Presence and Strategy

·       Business - Chapter Metrics and Analysis

·       Programs – Increased Attendance and Expansion into New Haven Area

HRACC affords much of its success to its members and volunteers. As always, we invite you to take a hand in fulfilling our mission and goals above; get involved; volunteer! Contact, or any board member, for more info.

Our next 3 events are taken straight from the headlines of every newspaper and TV network across the country. Our January 23rd meeting “Opioids in the Workplace: What HR Needs to Know” will cover the unfortunate reality of the opioid crisis and the impact on a department near you.  Our February 6th meeting, “Effective HR Documentation” ensures that we are creating HR records that are accurate and litigation-proof. Our February 28th  meeting “If I Could Turn Back Time…Getting Workplace Harassment Investigations Right” pays respect to the #MeToo initiative and will give you a front row seat to a hypothetical workplace harassment investigation and the tools to resolve it.

Start your New Year right and don’t miss these events! I look forward to serving you all as President in 2018 and hope to see you at our next chapter meeting!
