Taking the Sting Out of Separating Employees:  How to Conduct Effective Notification Meetings

This presentation offers HR professionals and managers information and best practices on one of the most difficult tasks in today’s changing organizations - separating or terminating employees with dignity and respect. It is not unusual for HR professionals, managers, and supervisors given the task of terminating individuals to be concerned about their ability to conduct a notification meeting and respond to the potential reactions from the employees. It is also easy to overlook small details which could add up to bigger problems for the organization after the fact.  This session will aide HR professionals and managers in properly planning for separations, conducting notification meetings effectively, and following-up to maintain organizational integrity.

Learning Objectives:

  • Prepare HR leaders to carefully plan and structure notification (off-boarding) events
  • Help participants understand HR’s role in planning effective notification meetings
  • Learn the 6 steps to conducting an effective meeting
  • Design important logistics prior to event, during and after the event
  • Communicate confidently and effectively with employees to reduce risk to employee and the organization
  • Understand and react appropriately to anticipated employee behaviors
  • Learn about required items and optional benefits best practices
  • Learn how to help their organizations move forward effectively
